Creating History: Stories of Ireland in Art

The National Gallery of Ireland announces its principal contribution to the Decade of Centenaries, Creating History: Stories of Ireland in Art, an exhibition that opens to the public on Saturday 8 October 2016, and runs until 15 January 2017. Admission is free.
The exhibition brings together a fascinating selection of 55 paintings spanning the seventeenth century to the early twentieth century, and depicting or inspired by episodes in Irish history from the arrival of St. Patrick to the establishment of the Irish Free State.
The exhibition is accompanied by a book Creating History: Stories of Ireland in Art, published by Irish Academic Press in association with the National Gallery of Ireland. Edited by Brendan Rooney, the Gallery’s curator of Irish art and curator of the exhibition, it includes essay contributions from Mary Jane Boland, Tom Dunne, R.F. Foster, Róisín Kennedy, Ruth Kenny, Emily Mark-FitzGerald, and Brendan Rooney.
