A few words about AEDEI 2019 Palma de Mallorca

18th International Conference of the Spanish Association of Irish Studies

“Difference and Indifference in Irish Studies” 29-31 May 2019 (University of the Balearic Islands)

Thank you Aida Rosende Pérez (Chair), Rubén Jarazo Álvarez and team for putting together a fantastic programme. Thank you also for all your determination and hard work in making this such a stimulating conference.

We had a wonderful reading by Melatu Uche Okorie and a fabulous Lisa McInerney, who gave a preview of her third novel. Ailbhe Smyth gave a thought-provoking oral history of long term feminist work and activism for social change, Anne Mulhall’s ‘Decentering Whiteness in Irish Literary “Multiculturalism”’ was an absolutely brilliant keynote. Thank you for all these very  important keynotes, brilliant papers, fabulous panelists, absolutely fantastic roundtables, wide ranging talks and brilliant phd scholars’ papers. We enjoyed an amazing island and Majorcan sun. Everyone attended a brilliant AEDEI 2019 conference in spite of the temptations of spa and pools.
