Fernández, José Francisco, ed. and trad. Mercier y Camier, by Samuel Beckett. Almería: Confluencias, 2013. 168 pages. ISBN: 978-84-941691-8-2.
This is not the first time that Beckett’s first novel in French has been translated into Spanish, but it is the first translation from the English version. Beckett wrote in 1946 this hilarious journey to nowhere by two tramps. As he did with many of his works in French, he later undertook the task of translating it into English. While doing this, he also modified the text, removing fragments he considered unnecessary and polishing the style. The result is a refined narrative and a perfect introduction to Beckett’s major literary works.
