CALL FOR PAPERS
THE ANIMAL TROPE: IRISH AND GALICIAN RESPONSES
Irish Centre for Galician Studies
University College Cork
Thursday 5th September 2019
Following the success of the symposium ‘Ecocritical Encounters: Women and Nature in Galician and Irish Cultural Production’ in 2017, the Irish Centre for Galician Studies at University College Cork will host another event related to ecocritical issues. The focus of this symposium will be the complex nature of the relationship that often exists between humans and animals, and how these interactions are reflected in Irish and Galician cultural production. We encourage comparative views and critical responses to environmental issues with particular emphasis on animal studies and the representation of animals in Irish and Galician literature, film, visual arts and other forms of cultural production.
Please send your abstract (max. 200 words) for a 20-minute paper and a brief biographical note to Dr Martín Veiga (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Wednesday 31st July 2019.
Thematic areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Animals and humans
Animals and Irish culture
Animals in Galician culture
Ecocriticism and the animal turn
Representation of animals in Irish and Galician cultural production
Animals and animality
